After many troubles I finally return with new version of the game!
New stuff:
- Fully reworked game logic
Combat scenarios are not hardcoded anymore, but are kept in data.xml file for easy editing or adding of completely new scenarios.
Available creatures and their attributes are set through the same data.xml file and also are fully editable.
Combat timer and sound settings can be changed through the same file.
- Beginnings of resource system implemented.
This will allow player to collect stuff into inventory for later use.
Not part of actual gameplay yet.
- Added menu screen
Will allow changing game settings without manual editing of data.xml in the future.
- Music and sounds!
Two tracks from machinimasound and button click sound to entertain players while they wait for more content.
Another major stuff:
- Accepting donations!
While I do plan on taking the route of full-time game developer, just having plans won't do much good for me, seeing as I'm still unemployed. Thus, I would welcome any financial help.
- If I can support myself enough to be able to dedicate most of my time to Eve's Garden, next big step would be setting up a campaign on OffBeatr.
- Download section reactivated!
Troubles-shmubles seem to be over, so the page is fresh and alive again.
So when, How, and are you going to open it up so we can submit content?
ReplyDeleteI looked at the XML and maybe you could create a .txt file with tutorial where we can fill in the blanks for an encounter? Not sure how but Id love to.
I took a second look and I think I can figure it out. I'll tinker with it tonight, but some help and pointers would be appreciated.
DeleteI'd be happy to help with some more basic encounters while you work on how to deal with the the after-effects and rest of the game.
(if you want the piggyback help that is)
Oh, sorry for misunderstanding.
DeleteWhat I wanted to say was that new functionality will greatly improve development process in general.
Less hardcoded stuff means more stuff added to the game in less time with less probability of something breaking in the process.
I didn't mean to say I expect other people to do my job for me.
But yes, anyone is welcome to make changes or additions and I will definitely post a tutorial on how to do this after I fix some more bugs. Oh, and "fill the blanks to make a story" idea is great, thanks!
What I cannot do on an acceptable level of quality is art. That's where assistance will be vital.
I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. I REALLY WANT to help with this game. I understand if you don't want someone to do all the fun stuff while you do the hard work but I'd love to contribute.
DeleteI work 3rd and have alot of free time on my hands. I rewrote the Moth encounter to a Bee. If it hadn't been for seeing the flow ingame I couldn't have done that. Just looking at the XML code it's a bit of a nonsequitor how the combat and options flow. A little help and direction and I'd be pumping out encounters as fast as you expand the terrain.
Many thanks!
DeleteXML in 0.6 was a bit weird due to a bug in game logic. In 0.7 it's fixed.
I will post tutorial on how to work with it in nearest future.
